Congratulations to all our students for recent recent GCE results!
Martin Luther King Academy is a school complex comprising of three schools in one campus, namely;
The idea of opening a lay private learning institution was conceived by Patience Nsong Ngwashi daughter of a British Trained teacher Martin Mesonge Nsong of glorious memory, who was her greatest supporter and mentor to see this dream come true.
The founder Patience Nsong Ngwashi was then a part time student of the University of Calabar, Nigeria and had just participated in a workshop on “Raising the Literacy standard of Nigerian pupils”. She then came to realize a bitter truth that most pupils in Cameroon primary schools had very low reading skills and consequently low standards of Education that was plaguing mostly the then public schools. She shared this with her father who was a retired seasoned teacher and administrator. Martin Mesonge Nsong was the pioneer proprietor and together with her daughter worked diligently to see the functioning of the pioneer lay private primary school in Meme Division.
Take off was very slow with only nineteen kids but by the third year the enrolment had moved up to 147 pupils. The distinctive ethos of the school and the manner in which the kids carried themselves was so attractive that, many more lay private schools were opened and by the year 2000 there were more than twenty lay private schools. Today there are more than sixty private schools in this municipality and her environs.
What makes Martin Luther as it’s fondly called outstanding as earlier said, the pupils are distinct in their knowledge, speech, orderliness and in-fact they are nice to be with. They are also excelling in academic, sports and leadership. Most of them who go to boarding schools are elected as school prefects and dormitory captains.
Martin Luther King School moved from its original campus at Kake, Kumba to Alaska Street where it is housed in three two floored story buildings. Naturally Martin Mesong Nsong passed on to Glory in March 2003 and was succeeded by his daughter Patience Nsong Ngwashi.
The need for a nursery school came up a few years after the primary was functioning as parents with very little kids found it difficult to move to and fro the town to drop and pick up kids. With the excellent performance of the primary school as it constantly monopolized top positions at march pass on National celebration days, spelling bee, brain trust, parents started asking for the upgrade. God granted that in September 2010 the secondary/comprehensive school was opened.
Today we are waxing strong and we are extremely grateful to God for his grace. Student population is about 1350 put together, 42 full time teachers and about 28 part timers who teach subjects in arts, science, commercial/business education and information technology(IT). Sports and horticulture form part of our extra curricular education.
We have been on for nearly a quarter of a century and have produced doctors, teachers, models etc. We are extremely grateful to God for the quality of citizens we have contributes to the job market whose productivity makes the world a better place.
